Attention Mushers!
We're trying to put together 4-5 day event mostly on the road system for this February. We would like to have a Serum Rum-format run that covers between 200-300 miles, likely starting in Willow or Talkeetna.
Why?
There are many mushers who enjoy running their dogs, but don't care if they do it faster than the next guy. That doesn't meant we should have to miss out on the trails, views, checkpoints and camradorie that mushers experience during a race. This would also be a good training trip for people planning on doing the Serum Run or other distance races in the near future, for handlers hoping to race, and for couples and families to get together on the trail and enjoy Alaska!
Trail
The trail will be discussed later, however, it will tentatively:
- Leave from Willow or Talkeetna
- Cover 200-300 miles
- Not loop back onto itself at all
- Stay mostly on the road system
- Travel into Denali State Park
- Be tons of fun!
What will it cost?
There will not be an entry fee. Instead, each musher will be assigned a 'checkpoint' to transfer drop bags and supplies to for the entire group.
What if I win?
It's not a race. There is no entry fee. There is no purse. It's not a timed event. Leave when you want, arrive when you want. Have fun and everyone wins!
Snowmachines
The idea of using snowmachines as part of the trip has not been discussed yet. There are several advantages as well as disadvantages to having snowmachines on the trail with us. What are your thoughts
What can I do now?
Get your team ready. Talk about this to your friends. Talk to us and share your thoughts and ideas so we can have a fun and safe time on the trail!
Point we need to discuss most are:
- The trail - where will we go?
- Checkpoints - where will we camp?
- Feb. what - when will we go?
- How much fun can we handle?
